  • When was the bed invented?

  • Beds have come a long way over the centuries. People earlier on used anything soft like straw or leaves to create a comfortable space to lie on, with animal skin and fur for extra warmth.

Nowadays, we enjoy the most advanced bed technology with proper mattresses made for all kinds of people, raised beds to elevate us from the ground, and headboards to enhance our visual experience over many other things.

Industrialisation in the 18th and 19th century made society richer and able to afford modern beds, making them popular and the best way for many to get some sleep.

German Heinrich Westphal first designed the modern spring mattress in the 1870s, replacing old mattresses which used hay, wool, down and other similar materials.

  • Why get bed rest for Ulcerative Colitis and Diverticulitis?

  • Neilanjan Nandi, MD, a gastroenterologist at Penn Presbyterian Medical Centre in Philadelphia, says: research shows that people with Ulcerative Colitis who get more sleep are less likely to have a flare. Similarly with Diverticulitis, great bed rest along with a hot pad on your belly, help your body to strengthen its immune system, alleviate pain, and lessen many symptoms.
